We provide on the job training for young adults with disabilities by creating and operating micro-businesses for them to learn to work in.

Our Mission

We build micro businesses that create the opportunity for people with learning disabilities to learn on the job in a way that fosters real-life work skills and enables independence.

Parents of disabled young adults know their child's potential. They know that for them to live an ordinary life they need experiences that grow their skills and talents, a reasonable income and the chance to mix with different types of people.

In other words, the opportunity to be like everybody else.

“Everyone is unique and has something of value to offer. its just a matter of tapping into that and helping them to be the very best they can be so they can Thrive”

— rachel and alison, founders

Only 23% of disabled people were employed last year in comparison to 70% of non-disabled people. Good quality work gives people a sense of purpose and can be positively associated with well-being (Stats NZ, 2019).

When disabled people are employed, they gain independence, become more confident, gain skills and knowledge and cost the government less.

Here is what the Harvard Business Review says about the positive impact employing people with disabilities have on business:

Our research suggests that having employees with disabilities in its workforce can build a firm’s competitive advantage in four ways: (1) Disabilities often confer unique talents that make people better at particular jobs; (2) the presence of employees with disabilities elevates the culture of the entire organisation, making it more collaborative and boosting productivity; (3) a reputation for inclusiveness enhances a firm’s value proposition with customers, who become more willing to build long-term relationships with the company; (4) being recognised as socially responsible gives a firm an edge in the competition for capital and talent.

At the end of their training, our trainees aspire to secure paid employment in businesses throughout the community.
